In the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode ‘Next Chapter,’ Detective Benson (Mariska Hargitay) talks to a young woman named Quinn (Annie Monroe) who was raped by a masked man. Quinn believes the rapist is the same man who went to jail for stalking her — Ray Wilson (Ben Cole). They met at college, at Rutgers, and went out once. And then one day she found him in her closet. Ray served his time and is out on parole. When Quinn received an apology letter from Ray, she contacted Sgt. Tom Cole, “the officer who saved me that night,” she explains to Benson. “He’s retired now.”
Retired Sgt. Tom Cole is portrayed by Chris Bauer. He’s known for his roles on Survivor’s Remorse (Jimmy Flaherty), The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (Det. Tom Lange), True Blood (Andy Bellefleur), Third Watch (Fred Yokas), and The Wire (Frank Sobotka), among many others. Bauer will appear next in the HBO series The Deuce with James Franco, Zoe Kazan and Maggie Gyllenhaal. It’s a drama about the rise of the porn industry and prostitution in New York City in the 70s. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit airs Wednesdays at 10pm on NBC.
