In the Empire episode ‘The Unkindest Cut’, Andre (Trai Byers) does whatever it takes to get singer Nessa (Sierra McClain) in the spotlight at a fashion event. In attendance is his mother Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), her man Angelo DuBois (Taye Diggs), Angelo’s mother Diana DuBois (Phylicia Rashad) and another powerful woman (with a bad wig), Helen Von Wyeth.
Helen Von Wyeth is portrayed by dancer/actress Gina Gershon. She’s known for her roles on the Amazon Original Series Red Oaks with Paul Reiser (Fay Getty), Cleaners (Mother), How to Make It in America (Nancy Frankenburg), Rescue Me (Valerie), and in the 1992 TV mini-series Sinatra (Nancy Sinatra). Gershon is also well recognized for her roles on Broadway (Sally Bowles in Cabaret) and in the films Face/Off (Sasha), P.S. I Love You (Sharon), Showgirls, Cocktail, and Bound. Empire airs Wednesdays at 9pm on FOX.
