The broadcast of Hairspray Live! on NBC (December 7) isn’t getting rave reviews but the performances by Jennifer Hudson are. The Oscar-winning singer/actress played Motormouth Maybelle. According to Hollywood Reporter she “tore the roof off with the equality anthem, I Know Where I’ve Been.”
After the live production, JHud posted a photo of her wearing a Hairspray Live! bomber. The caption thanks her fellow diva Ariana Grande who played Penny Pingleton. THR was less impressed with Grande’s performance. Hairspray Live! the original soundtrack is now available on iTunes. Each song including “Big, Blonde and Beautiful” and “I Know Where I’ve Been” is $1.29.
