Kanye West admitted on stage (see video below) that he didn’t vote, but that he would have voted for Donald Trump. Kanye is an iconoclast who doesn’t like to be predictable. He also likes to be seen as a winner — who doesn’t? — so casting his virtual ballot in hindsight for the guy who won makes sense. West’s assertion/confession surprised a lot of people.
West might just be voting his pocketbook here — he stands to get a pretty big tax break if Trump follows through on helping the rich. Or maybe he just liked Trump’s basic appeal to African Americans in poverty stricken areas, which was this:
“Look at how much African-American communities have suffered under Democratic control. To those hurting, I say: what do you have to lose by trying something new? I say it again, what do you have to lose? Look, what do you have to lose? You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs. 58% of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?”
