Carrie Fisher is a brilliant humorist, as anybody who’s read Postcards from the Edge can attest. And now the actress/writer/Hollywood royal is putting one over on people again. She’s got a new book out that’s meant not just to entertain and educate us (like her previous tomes) but to titillate us too. Why else, after 40 years, reveal an affair with Harrison Ford on the set of Star Wars? Especially since Ford was married at the time and had two children from that marriage? Gotta move product!
For her new book, The Princess Diarist — billed as an “intimate, hilarious and revealing recollection” — Fisher apparently had to work hard for the recollection part. Her brain, after all, has been through more than just the normal aging process, as readers of her previous books understand. So it may be understandable that Fisher only remembered the affair with Harrison Ford when she looked back through her diaries. She said as recently as March (see below) that she and Ford hadn’t hooked up. Those really must be some good diaries. And obviously Fisher has lived a very busy, exciting, unusual life — a quick street poll taken in NYC this morning found that 100% of women polled believe they would remember an affair with Harrison Ford even if they hadn’t written it down.
