Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO, will speak at the Democratic National Convention. Trumka and his powerful labor federation only threw their weight behind Clinton in June. Not because they were tempted by Trump, of course, but because they waited until the Clinton-Sanders battle was settled.
Trump has targeted union members, but Trumpka says the GOP candidate’s appeal isn’t genuine — and that Trump won’t make inroads with disappointed Sanders supporters. Trumka told the New York Times that the election is about two things: income inequality and raising wages — and that Hillary Clinton is the best way forward on each front. Trumka is a gender equality proponent too: a Clinton backer, a big fan of Sen. Elizabeth Warren and perhaps an even bigger fan of his colleague Liz Shuler, the Secretary-Treasurer of the AFL-CIO. Trumka couldn’t resist retweeting this nugget from a speech Shuler gave in Philly.

Besides being funny, Schuler makes a point the GOP convention didn’t much address:
.@realDonaldTrump @mike_pence now we have 2 men who don’t get that women are 1/2 the workforce & breadwinners & need 21st century policies
