Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay just added to his rich guitar collection by purchasing late pop god Prince’s “Yellow Cloud” guitar for $137,500. Irsay’s musical collection includes instruments from Bob Dylan and John Lennon, too.
But Irsay is still likely playing catchup to the even richer Microsoft co-founder, philanthropist and Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen. Allen’s collection of guitars, including those from rock icon Jimi Hendrix, got so large he used it as the basis for a museum — The EMP, or Experience Music Project (that’s Experience, as in The Jimi Hendrix Experience). Allen owns the white stratocaster that Hendrix played at Woodstock among lots of other axes, including an acoustic guitar owned by Woody Guthrie, John Lee Hooker’s Les Paul, and an Eddie Van Halen sizzler. But Irsay and Allen can jam, too.
