In 2014, NBA player Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder was named MVP. During his acceptance speech, he didn’t just thank his mother, Wanda Pratt Durant, he honored her with a moving speech that had everyone on their feet applauding and in tears. Durant addressed his mother during the speech (see below): “We [Kevin and his big brother] wasn’t supposed to be here. You made us believe. You kept us off the street. You put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didn’t eat, you made sure we ate. You went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us. You the real MVP.”
