There aren’t many female characters in the new AMC series Preacher. The protagonist of the show is Preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) who has taken over his late father’s church in a small dusty town in West Texas. His dark past (violence, drug abuse) comes to haunt him when a supernatural event hits the church and leaves the Preacher with a highly unusual power. But he’s not alone. He has his childhood friend, ex-girlfriend Tulip O’Hare by his side. The producers describe her character as a “bad ass beautiful woman with a gun.” Tulip also has a past filled with heartbreak.
[‘Preacher’ is based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon]
Tulip O’Hare is portrayed by Ruth Negga. The Ethiopian-born actress is known for her roles on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Raina), and in the films World War Z with Bratt Pitt, The Samaritan with Samuel L. Jackson, and the forthcoming Warcraft as Lady Taria (she plays Queen to King Llane who is portrayed by Dominic Cooper!). Warcraft will be in theaters June 10. Preacher premieres on Sunday, May 22 at 10pm on AMC.
