Courtney Barnett is the 28-year-old singer from Australia who’s the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on May 21. (SNL alum Fred Armisen is hosting.) Barnett is known for her debut album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit. She’s also known for writing “rambling lyrics” (she tells great stories) and for her deadpan delivery. Barnett was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2016 Grammy Awards. (All About That Bass pop singer Meghan Trainor won.)
Since 2011, Barnett has lived with her partner, fellow Aussie singer Jen Cloher. Together they wrote the song “Numbers” about their relationship and their age difference (Cloher is more than a decade older than Barnett. Some reports have her 11 years older, others 15.) “You might have some years on me but that don’t mean anything to me,” Barnett sings. Together Cloher and Barnett run the label Milk! Records. Saturday Night Live airs Satudays at 11:30pm on NBC.
