“I wanna go out but I wanna stay home,” Courtney Barnett sang on SNL, but everybody who was lucky enough to have tickets to the show had no idea what she was talking about. They were all damn glad they were out that night. As for what they thought when she sang “Why you so eager to please?” — who knows? They’re probably still asking themselves that this morning, the way people have since Barnett first started showing up on American indie radio a few years ago. The SNL performance looks like it’ll be a coronation for the 28-year-old Aussie rocker who’s as authentic as they come. The song, btw, is called “Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go to the Party.” It’s from Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit. (There was also “Pedestrian at Best” which she crushed.)
