On the evening of September 11, 2001, Michele Harris disappeared from her home in Owego, New York. Her body was never found. In 2005, her estranged husband Cal Harris was found guilty. He received a second trial and was found guilty again. That conviction was overturned. A third jury couldn’t decide. On May 24, 2016, after his fourth trial, Cal Harris was found not guilty.
Outside of the courtroom, as a free man surrounded by his children and attorneys, Cal Harris said he was planning to file a civil lawsuit again the Tioga County District Attorney’s Office and New York State Police. “Wait until you see what we present going forward,” said Harris. “It’s a shocking display of abuse of power and corrupt conduct.” Harris vows “to hold those people accountable.” Cal Harris spent three-and-a-half years in prison (after the second conviction). Harris’ lawyer Bruce Barket said, “We will not take long to draft a complaint and bring (legal) action.” 48 Hours airs Saturdays at 9pm on CBS.
