On The Profit, Marcus Lemonis visits four of the companies he’s invested in, including Shuler’s BBQ, a barbeque restaurant in South Carolina run by married (31 years) couple Norton and Lynn Hughes. Ten years ago the Hughes opened the restaurant with both of their family’s BBQ recipes. When Lemonis first met the Hughes, he saw a lot of potential in the business and he made a personal connection with the Hughes’ adopted son Shuler. Lemonis was adopted too, from Beirut.
The Hughes’ say someday, when they want to slow down, they’d like for Shuler to step in and take over. And they feel confident that Shuler will always have Marcus to turn to. Lynn says, “I love watching them [Marcus and Shuler] together. And Shuler loves him dearly.” With Marcus’ professional guidance, the Hughes have expanded the restaurant to include a general store which will include a small bakery and jerky shop, and a banquet room for private events with a spacious deck. With all the new things implemented, it’s clear that Lynn Hughes hasn’t lost her core passion — cooking. “Every time I cook a biscuit, I think about the person who’s going to eat it,” she says as she wipes a tear from her face. The Profit airs Tuesdays at 10pm on CNBC.
