Olympic Gold Medalist McKayla Maroney became as famous for her face as for her extraordinary skills. Competing in a sport where a tenth of a point can mean the difference between soaring victory and crushing defeat, Maroney held herself to exacting standards — and it often showed on her face. Maroney just announced she won’t be competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. By far the most famous of US gymnasts, she’s now a lame duck of sorts — just like her friend, the president, who posed for the famous picture above with Maroney at the White House.
She’ll be missed. But Maroney will stay in the gymnastics game — just not as a competitor. She’ll also continue to pursue acting (she has appeared in an episode of Hart of Dixie). That’s very good news for people who love McKayla Maroney’s face.
