On Empire, while Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson) is launching her own small record label, her son Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) wants to prove that he’s more than a singer. He woos Valentina, a hot Latina singer for the girl group he wants to put together and produce. Becky G says of her character, “Let’s just put it this way: they were calling me baby Cookie on set,” Becky told Entertainment Weekly. “I’m feisty. Like, the Becky G that’s right here and sweet and excited? Valentina is a totally different person.”

Yup, the Latina Valentina is real life singer Becky G. The 18-year-old was born Rebecca Marie Gomez. She’s the oldest of four kids and both of her parents are of Mexican heritage. While living in her grandparents’ garage in Los Angeles, Becky G started posting videos of herself dancing and singing on YouTube, and the rest is history. She’s now managed by Dr. Luke of Sony Music Entertainment. Empire airs Wednesdays at 9pm on Fox.
