In Space no one can hear you scream, went the famous tagline for Alien. Apparently director Ridley Scott can’t hear the franchise’s fans screaming at him not to make a follow-up to Prometheus, the much-maligned prequel to the sci-fi classic. (Prometheus had great marketing but it’s a lousy movie). It appears that Scott isn’t done with Space. He has confirmed that his next feature will indeed be Prometheus 2. Scott was promoting his new movie, The Martian, when he mentioned that he’s currently scouting locations for his next film.
Some of us would prefer Scott to focus on another futuristic project: Blade Runner 2. Prometheus ended with – SPOILER – Noomi Rapace heading off into deep space (along with Michael Fassbender’s head) looking for … well, not even Rapace knows. “God, maybe? God or Devil, I don’t know. I don’t know where [Scott] is going to take us, but I can’t wait to go there. I don’t know what we’re going to discover.” Prometheus 2 will arrive unwanted in theaters next year. Somewhat confusingly, another film in the Alien franchise will also be hugging the faces of film-goers in 2016.
