Federal meteorologists at the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center have nicknamed the current El Nino, Bruce Lee, as it could become the strongest on record. While a heavy downpour of rain might sound heavenly to Californians, Mike Halper of the NOAA says: “There’s no cause for rejoicing that El Nino is here to save the day.” Halper explains that the state would need one-and-a-half times its normal rainfall to recover from its drought “and that’s unlikely.”
While meteorologists agree about the growing strength of this El Nino, they hold different opinions regarding the best nickname for the powerful weather changer. Climatologist Bill Patzert at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory compares it to Godzilla.
