Forbes has released its annual list of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses, and Jennifer Lawrence leads the pack. By a lot. Between June of last year and June 2015, J-Law earned a whopping $52 million, thanks in no small part to her role as Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games movies, and a lucrative contract with Dior. Scarlett Johansson came in a distant second with $35.5 million, and Melissa McCarthy placed third with $23 million. Interestingly, although Charlize Theron demanded a raise once she learned she was earning less than Chris Hemsworth, her Snow White and the Huntsman co-star, she doesn’t even come close to the Top Ten. And Lawrence’s haul of over $50 million is still $30 million less than Hollywood’s top-paid man, Robert Downey, Jr.
For this year’s list, Forbes decided to include actresses from outside Hollywood, but “despite the broader valuations, only one non-American made the list: Chinese actress Bingbing Fan, who ranked No. 4 with a $21 million haul. Fan, who joins the ranking thanks to roles in movies such as The White-Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom and endorsements with Chopard and L’Oreal, is likely best-known to U.S. cinema-goers for her role in X-Men: Days of Future Past.” The list is based on data from IMDB, Nielsen, Box Office Mojo, and interviews with stars’ managers and agents.
