Four years ago, an American couple in love — Yvonne Baldelli and Brian Brimager — moved to Bocos del Toro, Panama to start a new life together. Yvonne emailed her family that everything was going well but the reality was she and Brian, a former Marine, were fighting constantly. And then one day all communication from Yvonne stopped. She disappeared. Brian returned to the States, got married, and moved on with his life.
Two years after Yvonne’s disappearance, her dismembered body was discovered in a remote jungle in Costa Rica. Brian Brimager was indicted on first-degree murder charges in her death. He pleaded not guilty. He is also accused of “obstruction of justice, giving false statements to a federal officer and falsifying records in connection with the case.” He allegedly sent emails from Yvonne’s account in which he pretended to be her, saying she was living in Costa Rica with another man. 48 Hours will feature the murder of Yvonne Baldelli on June 23 at 10pm on CBS.
