Kelly Brennan was having an affair with her friend’s (Sheila Trott) estranged husband, Dan Trott, former mayor of Indialantic, Florida. When Sheila Trott found out about the affair she told her two teenage sons she was going to Walmart, but instead she drove to Brennan’s house. In Brennan’s yard, Sheila snuck up on Brennan and attacked her from behind with a hammer, brutually killing her. Sheila Trott returned home that night and said she had a dream about “Kelly being hurt.”
After her sons testified against her, Sheila Trott was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder. She was sentenced to life in prison in September 2014. 48 Hours will feature the twisted love triangle murder on May 2 at 10pm on CBS.
