The Voice contestant Sarah Potenza is originally from Smithfield, Rhode Island, but she now lives in the heart of country music–Nashville, Tennessee. Although Sarah performs rock n’ roll, she’s a big fan of country music. She said she chose Blake Shelton (over Pharrell Williams and Adam Levine) because she said “I feel country music performers have a really strong connection to lyrics.” And Sarah likes to tell a good story.
Sarah tells a sweet story about when she knew she wanted to become a singer. “When I heard Joe Cocker sing, I said, ‘man, I’m alive.’” She admits to not understanding exactly what Cocker was saying or what the lyrics meant at the time but she knew she liked how it sounded. “And I knew I wanted to make that sound,” she said. Sarah’s done well making that sound–even if she doesn’t exactly sound like Joe Cocker. She made it to the Live Playoffs on The Voice, which airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
