One of the tricky parts of parenting is telling your kids how important school is–trying to get them to love it–when you know damn well that when you were in school you were bored half the time. It’s a little like the gap between what you should eat… and what you really eat.
But the good news is you weren’t wrong to be bored. And your creative kids who can’t stand school? They’re geniuses just like mom and dad. You know why? Because school is often truly boring. Homework sometimes really stinks. And there’s too much of it. It’s okay not to love school all the time. And once you realize that–like you will after you watch Sir Ken Robinson’s video below–you can go back to loving the great parts of getting an education. It’s not a new video, but then some things haven’t changed much since you were in school.
