She’s done with Tom Waits covers for now, but Scarlett Johansson still has designs on the music business. The Lost in Translation and Nanny Diaries star is in a new all-girl band called The Singles–and it’s good fun gumball groovy new wave pop so far. Maybe that’s why the track just released is called “Candy.” It wants to be listened to more than once.
ScarJo brings some fancy friends to her musical party, including Este Haim of Haim and Kendra Morris. The act is produced by TV on the Radio maestro Dave Sitek on his innovative Federal Prism label. Rolling Stone wrote “Scarlett Johansson’s new “super-pop” girl-group was inspired by Grimes and the Go-Go’s.” Sitek retweeted that, so that must be what he and the movie star were after. Johansson can sing and she’s certainly not afraid of trying very different things. If she keeps at it maybe someday Tom Waits will do an album of ScarJo covers. It would be quite fantastic to hear Waits sing “Candy.”
