This week Jon Stewart announced he plans to leave The Daily Show at some unspecified point in the future. The news came as a shock to the audience, and an even bigger shock to investors. Viacom, the parent company of Comedy Central, lost around $350 million after its shares slipped in value. Viacom’s stock went down by 1.5% immediately following Stewart’s announcement, according to Fortune.
During his announcement, Stewart said he had a lot of ideas for what he wants to do in the future, but that nothing was definite. One thing is definite, however. He now knows pretty much what he’s worth to anyone keen to hire him – roughly $350 million.
