On the BBC America show, “The Musketeers,” a peasant girl who thinks she’s talking to God raises a rebellion in France. “We must destroy the devil before he destroys us!” she yells urgently. The Musketeers are called in to investigate the young woman, Emilie of Duras. Her visions from God are instructing her to lead her thousands of followers into war with Spain.
The actress playing Emilie of Duras is Emma Lowndes, best known as Margie Drewe on that other hit show, “Downton Abbey.” Margie is the wife of tenant farmer Timothy Drewe. Margie reluctantly lets Edith take her foster child Marigold, when the truth is revealed that Edith is in fact Marigold’s biological mother. Both characters — Margie and Emilie — hold strong convictions but Margie is by far more emotionally sound than the provocateur Emilie.
