French musical artist Cécile Schott’s (aka Colleen) new album, Captain of None, is out this spring. At FACT mag, John Twells–a Schott contemporary–calls it her “most ambitious to date.” That’s saying something, because Captain of None is Schott’s 5th album–in a career that’s been full of the unexpected. It’s her first on the Thrill Jockey label, which both Schott and Twells think is a perfect match for her sensibility and her audience.
Schott’s last record–the first in a comeback after a prolonged silence–was The Weighing of the Heart. What was new about that record is that it’s the first time Schott sang, though her previous albums had “a lyrical quality.” Colleen/Schott begins touring in Munich in mid-March and will hit the US in June, starting in San Francisco and finishing up in NYC. Here’s a taste.
