‘Whitney,’ the biopic depicting Whitney Houston’s troubled life is airing on Lifetime, January 17 at 8pm. Actress Angela Bassett, who worked with Whitney on the 1995 film Waiting to Exhale, directed the TV movie — against the wishes of Whitney’s mother, Cissy Houston.
Without the blessing of Cissy, Bassett was not able to use Whitney’s voice for the movie. While actress Yaya DaCosta portrays Whitney, it’s Canadian R&B singer Deborah Cox who provides the vocals for the songs including “I’m Your Baby Tonight” and “I Will Always Love You” for the film.
