Wow you’re really hot, begins Howard Stern. Do you like that, he asks guest Gwyneth Paltrow, when people say you’re hot? “I love that,” answers Gwyneth and we’re off to the races. Gwyneth, frequent target of mean barbs, doesn’t take attacks personally. “It used to hurt my feelings,” she tells Howard, “but now I genuinely see it as not about me.” She makes a good point, noting that the person people are usually attacking is not her but a “cartoon character out in the world that people say things about.” Undeniably true, as it is for every celebrity. (Though note: Gwyneth cashes the cartoon character’s checks, too!)
Paltrow, who will always be known as Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow, sounds relaxed, smart, comfortable and secure. That’s a necessity for Stern’s show because he’s always pushing it. This interview should make Paltrow fans out of non-fans. (Just gloss over the contradictions like that Gwyneth “lives in a media vacuum” but has a Twitter account.) As for her supposed advice on making a relationship work by fixing bad spots with fellatio? Stern knew what he would do: “If you were my wife, I’d be picking fights with you all the time.”
