Sometimes the headline says everything–and Ben Phillips did a beauty with this one. Phillips is listed as the Director of Policy, Research, Advocacy and Campaigns at ActionAid International. He takes a consistently unflinching look at the fraught efforts of “development experts” trying to help “developing economies” — having himself been on the front lines around the globe in various campaigns to combat poverty. He’s quick to say what doesn’t work. It’s probably a certainty that 1700 private jets flying anywhere to talk about anything doesn’t work. But flying all those carbon-spewing jets to Davos to discuss how to save an endangered planet is the cruel twist of a willfully ignorant knife.
Davos is, of course, the Swiss city were the global elite meet each year to trade business cards and blood. The World Economic Forum annual meeting is hosted there. It’s going on now.
