The new Netflix series, Marco Polo, is a 10-part series about the 14th century merchant’s Chinese exploration, which lasted more than 20 years. Some critics are complaining that viewers of the pilot “have to endure 40 minutes of dialogue and strategy before any action takes place.” The 24-year-old Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy, who plays Marco Polo, had to quickly learn kung-fu, horseback riding and sword fighting, in addition to learning English!
Two people who are sorely missed on the set of Marco Polo – stuntman Ju Kun and fight choreographer Brett Chan – were passengers on the Malaysia Airlines flight 370 which disappeared in April 2014. Kun was on his way to visit his children in Beijing before starting work on Marco Polo, which was being shot in Malaysia. Just this week, after nine months, authorities say the underwater search for debris should be concluded by May 2015.
