“Will the comic movie bubble burst?” was the question posed by The Daily Beast in a recent article exploring whether audiences slavishly devoted to the genre will tire of it and move on. Conclusion: there is no end in sight. Cinematic comic book franchises will continue to produce those movies far into the future. But the competition is still fierce for a new genre to be exploited. The emerging beast is classic monster movies–to be turned into a Marvel-style movie universe according to the A.V. Club. Universal Pictures has come up with a team of “Monster Men” — a brain trust for the job.
The “Monster Men” team will tackle The Mummy first, due in theaters on June 24, 2015, followed by The Wolf Man on April 21, 2017. These efforts will be followed by close-ups for Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein and the vampire hunter Van Helsing.
