Red Bull has agreed to pay more than $13 million to settle a lawsuit. The energy drinks company is accused of false advertising. It turns out Red Bull doesn’t really cause one to sprout wings and fly as the company cartoon depicts via its advertising and marketing materials. The suit argues that the company misleads consumers about its claims of increased performance, concentration and reaction speed. Red Bull denies wrongdoing but has voluntarily withdrawn and revised its marketing claims to avoid the “cost and distraction of litigation.”
$6.5 million of the $13 will go into a settlement fund. Anyone who bought at least one Red Bull can over the past 10 years can make a claim to receive a $10 reimbursement or two free Red Bull products (valued at $15). Here’s where to submit your claim. You have until March 2015.
