Ariana Grande was recently called a diva for prepping media with a list of requests prior to interviews. One of Ariana’s requests is not to be asked about Jennette McCurdy, her former co-star on two Nickelodeon TV series–Victorious and its spin-off Sam & Cat. (Jennette played the aggressive one, Sam. Ariana was the sweet, bubbly Cat. They ran a babysitting business together.)
Nothing lasts forever in the world of TV (Sam & Cat ended in July 2014), including friendships. There’s a bitter Instagram battle going on between Ariana and Jennette which involves a quick fling with an NBA player and leaked semi-nude photos–and that was before “the fappening.” McCurdy isn’t as famous as Ariana–Ariana’s singing career skyrocketed this summer with her album My Everything featuring a duet with her now boyfriend Big Sean. But Jennette is outsmarting Ariana. Jennette has rebounded from the leaked photos and is producing her own web show What’s Next For Sarah? which many believe mocks Ariana (there’s a character named Gloriana with a soaring singing career who looks a lot like Ariana). Jennette has also taken to writing articles for The Wall Street Journal (eight of them so far!) and has become a regular columnist for Seventeen magazine. Jennette says she wants to try stand-up next and who’d bet against her writing some pretty good jokes? Jennette McCurdy just might prove that the pen is mightier than the pop song.
