After years of deliberation and negotiation, Warner Bros. finally gave the green light on producer Jerry Weintraub’s 3D live-action movie Tarzan. In 2012, rumors flew that Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps was going to play the lead (the original Tarzan, Johnny Weissmuller, did win five Olympic gold medals in the 1920s) but it turns out True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgård will play the loinclothed hero.
Margot Robbie of The Wolf of Wall Street will play Jane. Django Unchained star Christoph Waltz will play Captain Rom who tries to capture Tarzan in exchange for diamonds. Samuel L. Jackson is signed on too, but his role has not been disclosed–we’re sure the “Jesus of Comic Con” will deliver the goods. As will Harry Potter director David Yates who knows how to make characters fly (or swing) off the screen. Tarzan in 3D will be released in July 2016.
