It’s just over a month to the beginning of the Toronto International Film Festival, which is viewed by the film industry as the traditional start of the race to the Oscars. Plenty of big-name stars will descend on Toronto to promote their movies. Denzel Washington, Al Pacino, Chris Evans, Jennifer Aniston, and Tina Fey will all be in attendance.
Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon has two movies in competition, either of which could earn her an Academy Award nomination. In Wild she gets all Christopher McCandless (minus the dying bit) in a true-life story of a woman who ‘discovered herself’ while she walked 1100 miles along the Pacific Crest Trail. Witherspoon’s other film is The Good Lie – another true-life tale involving a 1000 mile hike – made by three Sudanese orphans. Prepare for tears and a feisty Witherspoon in a movie made by the same people who inflicted The Blind Side on us. Both films look to be sort of like this, but far less Scottish.
