You’ve seen a Dodge Charger in your review mirror and said uh-oh. The favorite of cops everywhere for its sheer speed and aesthetic menace, the Dodge Charger is now getting super-charged. Dodge announced that it will manufacture a Charger Hellcat that will be the fastest production sedan ever made–BMW and Mercedes, as MC Hammer might say, can’t touch this. 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds. That’s Porsche-like speed in a family sedan. Well, a certain kind of family anyway. The best thing about it may be that Charger Hellcat is the only car in the world where you can do 200+ mph while seated comfortably in the back seat! (It might–just might–be less scary back there.)
Recognizing that there’s little need for such a ride, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis told Motor Trend: “Sometimes you have to stop listening to the focus groups.” He added: “we’re doing something that paves the way into new territory.” There was no need, he might have added, to go to the moon either. But it was hellcat cool.
