An 80-year-old California man shot and killed a 28-year-old woman who punched and body slammed him before trying to flee after a burglary, according to Long Beach Police. The octogenarian, Tom Greer, said he shot the woman, Andrea Miller, who was unarmed, after she shouted “Don’t shoot me, I’m pregnant–I’m going to have a baby.” Greer told police: “I shot her anyway.” (He shot her in the back.) He had been burglarized three times before, according to an AP story.
It will take an autopsy to determine whether Miller was really pregnant. Her accomplice in the burglary, Gus Adams, was arrested the next day. It was, by Greer’s own admission, the first time in his long life that he had ever shot anybody. California is one of the states that has passed the controversial stand-your-ground laws.
