Superstar artist Jeff Koons is having a retrospective exhibit at the Whitney Museum of American Art (June 27-October 19, 2014). His iconic vinyl Inflatable Flowers, his yellow stainless steel Balloon Dog, and his Michael Jackson and Bubbles porcelain sculpture are all part of the big show. But what about all those Kooners (his fans, I just made that up, I hope it sticks!) who can’t make it to New York?
Although Mr. Koons has said, “I don’t believe that artists really are interested in money. That’s not the motivation for art,” Artsy.com is promoting a line of 2,500 limited edition Koons porcelain plates ($490 each via Baker Sponder Gallery) and online marketplace Redbubble is selling images of his work on posters, greeting cards, pillows, tote bags and iPhone cases.
