The nonprofit organization, The French Will Never Forget, spent more than $100,000 to collect, freeze and then drop one million red rose petals over the Statue of Liberty today in honor of D-Day’s 70th anniversary. And that’s just the beginning. The orgganization also just launched an initiative to lay (by July 4th) a red rose on each and every one of the 60,511 graves and 11 MIA monuments of Americans fallen in France during WW I and II.
Four French expatriates in the United States are behind the efforts. They are: Paul Bensabat, co-owner of Saveur Food Group/The Manischewitz Company, New York architect Jean-Pierre Heim, Patrick du Tertre, president of the aviation company Dassault Procurement, and Christian Millet, CEO of the freight logistics company Logfret Inc.
