Wanna hear the voice of the street? You might not like it (many find it arrogant) but the outspoken BMXer Adam Grandmaison (aka Adam22) is bringing it to you. His incredibly successful and popular website The Come Up is bringing the “extreme sport” of BMX – and its baggy pants and tattoo culture – mainstream. Grandmaison’s the boss so he can post porn and violent videos on the homepage whenever he wants – it hasn’t yet hurt his six-figure advertising revenue or corporate sponsorships. The Come Up started as a message board, when he was laid up with a broken leg and hand (“after beating up some kid”). Now TCU publishes everything from how-to articles and tricks on video to new product news and his own lines of clothes (he has six brands). A favorite is OSS (On Some Shit).
Grandmaison might not be the best rider out there (his loyal readers will be the first to tell you that) but he’s okay with that. He says: “To me, riding isn’t about going to the skate park and killing myself trying to learn something for a few hours, it’s about chilling and fucking around on a curb for 20 minutes and then eating pizza and sitting around for three hours.”
