If you have $110 this morning and you let Ladbrokes, the English bookmaker, hold onto it for you, they’ll give you back about $190 this November. That is, if Barack Obama is re-elected POTUS. If someone unseats the incumbent, however, Ladbrokes keeps your loot. Who might that someone be? Well if you think it might be Newt Gingrich, hurry up and send a $100 to Ladbrokes and long before the former Speaker even picks his first cabinet member they’ll send you back about $2500. Not bad.
Astonishingly, the Gingrich odds aren’t too much better than the line on Hillary Clinton, who is not a candidate and whose ascendancy to the White House in 2013 would involve circumstances imaginable perhaps only by the indefatigably enterprising brain of her husband, William. HRC is currently a 40-1 shot. And if Mitt Romney were to wager, as is his custom, $10,000 on himself, he’ll pocket $27,500 or so, well before the swearing in of America’s first gambling Mormon president.
