More than 200 police officers in 100 police cruisers from across the country drove 12 hours in a convoy to Rustburg, VA, this week, to surprise a terminally ill 6-year-old named Nathan. While undergoing another round of chemotherapy to fight tumors in his brain and spinal cord, Nathan’s Christmas wish this year was to receive cards/letters from his heroes – police officers, firefighters, EMTs. Word of Nathan’s wish spread quickly and officers from around the country have been sending hundreds of letters each day.
Nathan’s family has donated more than 3,000 toys to various hospitals and charities. Rustburg was named for Jeremiah Rust, who donated 50 acres of his land for the village in 1784.
