During the fourth round of auditions for ABC’s Season 2 of American Idol, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan are moved by the performance of Ashley Hess. The young woman from Fremont, California sings the song that made Norah Jones famous, “Don’t Know Why,” which won three Grammy Awards in 2003 (Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and Record of the Year). After Ashley’s audition, the judges ask her to sing the song again — but this time at the piano (after they discover that she’s learning how to play the piano). She plays and sings the line “My heart is drenched in wine” and nails it, again.

Prior to American Idol, Ashley recorded a mashup of 13 favorite Disney songs — from “Let It Go” from Frozen to “When You Wish Upon a Star” from Pinocchio. The five-minute video went viral. It’s been viewed close to six million times. Check it out below. (Note: The Walt Disney Company owns the ABC Television Network.) American Idol airs Sundays at 8 pm on ABC, right before Shark Tank.
