On the Teen Mom episode “Eye to Eye,” while Catelynn Lowell Baltierra tries to console Amber Portwood who says she’s struggling with postpartum depression, Maci Bookout and her husband Taylor meet with Jen and Larry, Ryan’s parents. Maci’s ex is about to come home from rehab, and she wants to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Jen and Larry say they’re proud of him and that he’s doing well. Larry says Ryan’s wife Mac “has been really hard.” According to Jeff, Mac told Ryan if he doesn’t complete the program he can pick up his stuff and, that’s when Jen interrupts, “and live in tent city,” which has Jen and Maci giggling. (Note: Tent cities are areas in/around cities, including Chattanooga where the Edwards live, where homeless people live in tents.)
But the lighthearted laughter doesn’t last long. Jen breaks down in tears and says, “I think he still blames me for taking the lead because of Bentley, and he wasn’t able to make that happen.” Larry says Ryan says “he feels like an uncle, and not a father.” Larry breaks down in tears too talking about his son and his addiction and how they said some hateful things to each other.
“He wanted to hurt me and I wanted to hurt him.” Maci tells Jen and Larry that she loves them both and that will never go away.” She repeats, “That will never ever go away.” Teen Mom airs Mondays at 9 pm on MTV.
