In the 2015 Bar Rescue episode “Til Debt Do Us Part,” Jon Taffer and his crew traveled to San Diego, California, to check out Caribe Nightclub. It’s been in business for 15 years but after a family death, the business suffered. While trying to turn things around for the dance nightclub which faced a $300,000 debt, Taffer got caught between flirtatious owner Juan Pablo Martinez and his enraged wife Edith. Things got so bad between the Dominican Republic-born couple that Edith served Juan divorce papers during the episode. With a lot of patience, Taffer managed to clean up the place and re-brand Caribe Nightclub as La Luz Ultra Lounge.
Almost three years after the Bar Rescue episode, La Luz Ultra Lounge is still in business with their two spacious and separate dance rooms. Every Wednesday night La Luz hosts Bachata Dance Night (free lessons included) and Latin Fusion Fridays with live music. Not only did the business survive but so did Juan and Edith’s marriage. According to their Facebook pages, they’re still married and look much happier! New episodes of Bar Rescue air Sundays at 10pm on Paramount Network.
