Neal Boyd, the 2008 winner of America’s Got Talent, was a great competitor. He was born not only to sing but to compete. Boyd, an unlikely AGT champion as an opera singer, also ran a couple of times for political office in his home state of Missouri. Though his runs for the Missouri House of Representatives ended in defeat, it was all part of Boyd’s journey — best exemplified by his lone solo album entitled “My American Dream.” Boyd died this week at age 42, with much promise sadly unfulfilled. But the legacy he leaves is one of success, fight and individuality — doing it his way.
“My American Dream” – Neal Boyd
Neal Boyd won the Music Teachers National Association Vocal Collegiate Championship in 2000 and had his solo debut at Carnegie Hall in March 2001. On “My American Dream” before he performs familiar operatic staples like “Nessun Dorma” Boyd sings “God Bless The USA.” He finishes the record, which has 11 songs, with “Amazing Grace”, an exceptional rendition that follows “Ave Maria.” Here are all the tracks on “My American Dream.” Thanks, America’s Got Talent, for delivering Mr. Boyd to greater public attention.

3. Mama
4. Somewhere
5. Il Gladiatore
6. Bring Him Home
