On American Idol, the Top 24 artists get to perform duet with celebrity singers. The one-named contestant Dominique impressed the judges during his last solo performance. He sang the 1983 Rufus with Chaka Khan song “Ain’t Nobody” and Katy Perry was feeling it. “You have arrived,” Katy told Dominique. For his celebrity duet, Dominique is paired up with Aloe Blacc.
[Aloe Blacc’s Lift Your Spirit was nominated for a Grammy, Best R&B Album]
Born Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins, Aloe Blacc is known for his hit singles “I Need a Dollar” and “The Man” and for providing vocals on the Avicii song “Wake Me Up.” He’s also a member of the music duo Emanon (that’s no name backwards). Raised in Laguna Hills, California, Blacc graduated from the University of Southern California and got a job working for Ernst & Young before launching his solo music career in 2003. (Maybe Aloe Blacc will convince Dominique that it’s time he quit his day job!) Blacc is married to rapper Maya Jupiter, the mother of his five-year-old child. American Idol airs Sundays and Mondays at 8pm on ABC.
