Sharane Calister is one of the three powerhouse singers left on The Voice‘s Team Adam. (The other two are R&B singer Rayshun LaMarr and country singer Jackie Verna.) For her Top 11 performance, Sharane is singing Mariah Carey’s hit song “Hero.” Carey wrote the song originally for Gloria Estefan to be used in the 1992 film Hero starring Geena Davis and Dustin Hoffman. Story goes that while writing the song in the studio, Carey was convinced by her then fiance Tommy Mottola, CEO of Sony Entertainment, to change it and keep it for herself, which she did. It’s on her third studio album, Music Box (1993). Now Sharane Calister is going to try to keep “Hero” for herself too, by owning it on The Voice stage.

P.S. The late great Luther Vandross provided the theme song, “Heart of a Hero,” for the movie Hero. Dustin Hoffman plays a pickpocket who saves the life of a political reporter and wants the credit he deserves. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
