In the Superior Donuts episode “High Class Problems,” while Arthur (Judd Hirsch) raises the price of his donuts — which draws in a hipster crowd — Franco (Jermaine Fowler) finds out his new girlfriend, blue-haired Tavi, is rich. Franco starts to wonder if Tavi is only dating him to make herself look more progressive.
Blue-haired Tavi is portrayed by Shamikah Martinez. The comedic actress/writer/producer is known for creating viral videos with the comedy troupe Candy Slice Comedy (see video below), and for producing music videos for the band Fall Out Boy. [In 2014 she produced “Save Rock and Roll,” “The Young Blood Chronicles” and in 2013 “Death Valley,” “The Mighty Fall”, and “The Phoenix.”] After graduating from George Mason University, Martinez got an internship at MTV’s TRL in New York, worked at a TGI Fridays, and fell in love with improv and the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. She and her comedic partner Molly Austin — together known as Austin Martinez — are working on a scripted comedy produced by MAD pictures with Adam Donald, Martinez’s husband. Superior Donuts airs Mondays at 9pm, right after Man With a Plan, and right before Living Biblically.
