American Idol is saving some of the best singers for the last night of auditions on Sunday, March 25. One of them is Tory Teasley from Oakland, California. Before the audition airs, the Bay Area singer told his local ABC TV news station that the day he auditioned for American Idol, he went to church and then read his horoscope which said, “You’ll do something today that’s worth your while.” Tory says he showed up at the audition around noon, “There wasn’t much of a line.” For the audition, Tory wore an elegant ankle-length dress with high heels, a black turban and a goatee.
Tory describes himself as a funk/soul/R&B singer who was classically trained in jazz (The Berkeley Jazz School, which is now known as The California Jazz Conservatory). Tory says “Singing is healing” and that “I’ve always been fueled by the ambition to inspire people to be more of themselves.” Tory sings for a living but doesn’t make enough money to “indulge in personal creative pursuits” like recording an album with his band, Tory and the Teasers, for which he launched a GoFundMe campaign in 2017. American Idol airs Sundays and Mondays at 8pm on ABC.
